Walking in The Coldest Night of The Year

The past few weeks have reminded us how cold winter can be, and how nice it feels to warm up inside. For many, indoor reprieve from the cold isn’t an option. An estimated 150,000 Canadians experience homelessness outside, and hundreds of thousands more face the constant challenge of meeting their most basic needs: food, safety and shelter.

This Saturday February 20th The Faris Team will get just a miniscule taste of what it’s like to brave the elements by walking in The Coldest Night, Canada’s national walk for homelessness. Funds raised from our event will benefit The Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and Shelter in Orillia, an organization that gives its community much more than soup.

“Mark and I had the pleasure of visiting The Lighthouse in Orillia and met with Linda Goodall, Executive Director of The Lighthouse last week,” says Joanna Faris, CMO of The Faris Team. “They are doing incredible work in the Community of Orillia, and we are so blessed that there are such caring people and organizations such as this in our local community.  We are very excited to support the current efforts and big initiatives of The Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and Shelter,” adds Joanna.

The Lighthouse offers three hot meals a day for anyone who is hungry. They also operate a 14-bed men’s shelter, providing additional resources to their guests like housing information, employment assistance and addictions counselling. The Lighthouse represents a safe place for people to come, and is a symbol of direction towards a better future.

The Faris Team is looking forward to give back to the community by walking a few cold kilometres in support of this local, hard-serving charity. Please donate and help us raise much needed funds for those without a home to call their own.
