Up, up and away! Vertical Storage Solutions For Your Kitchen

This winter has had its share of ups and downs, but one constant is that with more days spent indoors even the most organized room can start to come apart at the seams. For many of us it’s the kitchen, arguably the most used room in the house. Need more counter space? Want extra space in your cupboards? These vertical storage solutions may be just what you are looking for.

Hanging fruit bowl

Fruit bowls are great, especially the ones that have built in banana hooks, but if counter space is at a premium consider a hanging basket for items like fruit, garlic and onions. You can also install containers to the sides of cupboards for handy access to your produce.

Sides of cabinets

Speaking of sides of cabinets, install a few screws or hooks to hang your cutting boards, utensils or even the kitchen broom.

Magnetic spice rack

Free up premium shelf space by investing in magnetic spice containers to store on the fridge. These small pods are easy to fill, quick to access and attractive to display.

Magnetic strip for knives

These space saving mounts look frightening at first, but when installed correctly they are a great way to free up space taken by your butcher block. Install to your back splash, behind your stove, or really any unused wall area. For extra peace of mind that nothing comes loose and falls to the floor, make sure there’s a solid surface beneath like your counter top.

Pot lids

They’re big, they’re heavy and they aren’t flat. Most kitchens don’t have an ideal place to store pot lids, although many newer designs have handy pot drawers that addresses the demand for this much needed storage. Purchase a small dish rack to store them upright in your cupboards or install a tension rod into a deep drawer lining lids along the parameter. The inside walls of your cabinets are also a great place to hang a pot lid organizer or even a magazine rack that will stand up to the weight.

DIY bottle racks

Reusable water bottles are a must-have for any busy household, but these light-weight devices demand high shelf clearance and tumble over easily. Stacking them vertically in magazine file organizers is an inexpensive storage solution, as is hanging a shoe rack over the inside of a pantry or closet door!

Over the sink cutting board

This is technically a horizontal storage solution, but a fan favourite none the less. This design frees up much needed counter space while you prepare dinner and many act as a two-in-one utensil complete with built in strainer.
