Family Stay this Family Day

We’re all familiar with the beloved “Stay-cation,” a period in which an individual or family participates in leisure activities within driving distance and conveniently curls up in their own beds at night. This Family Day weekend temperatures are forecasted to plummet, and while there will be brave souls who embrace the beautiful outdoors any way, we’ve taken the notion a step further and compiled a list of “home-cation” activities your family will enjoy without stepping foot outside!

Camp-in

Dust off your summer camping gear and pitch a tent right in your living room or basement. No tent? Drape a sheet over some furniture and lay down some blankets or sleeping bags. Visit ourPinterest page for more indoor camping ideas, like how to make an easy flameless fire and turn Oreos into S’mOREOs.

Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt

Family Day and Valentine’s Day share a weekend this year, so why not incorporate the holiday of love into your home-cation plans? Make a list of Valentine-themed things to find around the house or play eye spy while watching a Valentine’s Day show together. Family Dinner Party

A menu that pleases the taste buds is a home-cation must! Get the whole family involved with a make-your-own pizza or taco station. Better still, cook a meal together and then get dressed up to eat in your very own “family restaurant.” Have older kids at home? Research cuisine from another country and attempt a few new recipes together.

Build a Time Capsule

Time Capsules are a great tradition that gets the whole family involved. Collect items that reflect your family as it is today, like photos, recent crafts or artwork and school reports. Sit down and write a letter to your future selves to open one, five or even 10 years from now, or better yet, take turns interviewing each other. Visit our Pinterest page for ready-to-print interview questions and remember, there’s no need to bury your collection; simply store in a cool, dark place to be opened a future Family Day weekend.

Family Film Festival

Home-cation and movies go together like popcorn and butter, so why not plan your very own Family Film Festival? Choose a theme and ask each family member to select one movie for the group to screen. Take time after each flick to discuss the movie and look up behind the scenes tidbits or real life inspirations. Visit our Pinterest page for movie marathon ideas that the whole family will enjoy.

The Faris Team wishes you a safe and happy long weekend.
