It’s been available for download for more than 2 years, but The Faris Team was reminded why we love the City of Barrie’s mobile app, Pingstreet, at the Mayor’s Annual Business Progress Breakfast last week.

In his original statement about the app, Mayor Jeff Lehman expressed his excitement for the technology, stating:

“This mobile app is one more way we are encouraging public engagement and increasing customer service at the City. Whether it’s accessing garbage collection dates, checking road closures on the go, or reporting problems you spot around town, residents can now access the information they need and communicate directly with their city anywhere, anytime.”

Here are our selections for Pingstreet’s top 3 features:

  1. Report a problem

Does your local park have a broken bench? See a pot hole that needs filling? How about graffiti that needs scrubbing or a transit schedule that’s off the mark? The “Report a Problem” feature allows residents to take a photo of any issue they spot around Barrie and send it directly to the relevant department. You also insert the exact location of the problem so that City crews know where to begin work.

  1. Twitter and Facebook links

Why has garbage collection been delayed? What May long-weekend activities can my family take part in? Is the City of Barrie hiring? You’ll find links to great articles that answer all of these questions and more when you access the City of Barrie Twitter and Facebook feeds straight from this app. You can of course follow the City of Barrie feeds from your existing social media accounts, but there’s something about having this information neatly separated that makes us feel up to speed on the latest and greatest updates on our community.

  1. Make a Suggestion

Have an idea that would make Barrie an even better city to call home? Thanks to the “Make a Suggestion” feature, residents can post ideas that others can vote on. Once a suggestion reaches 500 votes, City staff will review the idea and determine whether it can be implemented. Looks like spring and summer is top of mind for Barrie locals, as new splash pads, dog parks and bike lanes are currently garnering top votes.

Visit your smart phone’s app store to download Pingstreet. You can also access the Make a Suggestion forum through the City’s website at barrie.ca/suggestions.
