Spring Training at Barrie’s New Waterfront Circuit

Spring training may be over for the Blue Jays but it’s just heating up along Barrie’s waterfront! You may have noticed a collection of stainless steel structures along the shoreline of Kempenfelt Bay, and wondered what these are exactly. Well, you can now incorporate resistance and strength training into your daily jog or walk thanks to these new outdoor circuit trainers.

There are 6 circuit locations, all providing tranquil views of Lake Simcoe and the opportunity to skip the gym and workout in the fresh air instead. You’ll find two circuits at the east and west ends of Heritage Park, one near the Spirit Catcher, one near Tiffin boat launch and two at the east and west ends of the Southshore Centre. Use your own body weight to work your arms with pull ups, lifts or butterfly presses and strengthen your core and agility with pendulum and press equipment and air walk balancers. Handy instruction panels at each location will guide you through suggested routines, and you can use your smartphone to scan a unique QR code that links you to an app that offers workout tips and helps you keep track of repetitions and time spent at each machine.

Craig Busch of Busch Systems and Drew Dekker from NetGain SEO are the ingenious minds that spearheaded this project, taking inspiration from similar apparatuses they’d seen throughout Spain and Portugal. In an effort to give back to their own community, they sought out funding assistance from over a dozen companies around the Barrie area to assist with the machines’ $100,000 price tag. Thanks to the generosity of these corporations and collaborative efforts from the City of Barrie, Busch and Dekker have succeeded in bringing outdoor workouts to the community they call home.

If you are looking for something new to try in Barrie, The Faris Team highly recommends you check out this state of the art equipment. What better way to enjoy the great outdoors and increase your physical activity at the same time!
