Inspiring Laundry & Mud Rooms? Really!
The most ignored space in many homes is the mud room which often doubles as a laundry room. This popular dumping ground is responsible for storing coats, shoes, umbrellas, pet cages, knapsacks, clean and dirty laundry, ironing board…did I miss anything? Talk about your multi-taskers. This might be why this room often looks like it has been ransacked. Before you give up hope entirely on your mud/laundry area, take a look at the inspirations below. There’s hope for your laundry room yet.
Put that leftover flooring to good use. This rustic barnboard accent wall was created with flooring panels and has transformed this mud room into a work of art. The hooks, closed storage, and bench ensure this space is organized and functional as well as beautiful.
When is a narrow hallway more than just a narrow hallway? When it’s re-imagined using a little vision and lot of flair. Why not kick your skinny hallway/laundry area up a notch with some swanky lighting, wood paneling, and matching window trim, accents, and pillows? The clean wood bench is practical and in more ways than one – you can store shoes below it as well.
Got a pooch and a cat and wondering how on earth you are going to make all of their stuff disappear in an instant if you ever decide to sell your home? Here’s one way. There’s even a custom washing station.
If you’ve got a modern aesthetic, this laundry room may be more your speed. The shiny cupboard doors reflect light, making the room appear larger, and are perfect for hiding the mess that surely lies inside. There’s even room for a little computer nook.
If you’re low on floor space and short on budget, think vertical. This is a simple but effective way to get multiple levels of storage in one small area. A lovely, clean backsplash, some paint a couple of cupboards and you’re done. If your hotel towel folding skills don’t quite meet the standards shown above (or if you live with my family and you know you’ll never keep those shelves looking tidy), you may require more matching baskets to keep things out of sight.
Under the heading, “Why didn’t I think of that,” there are all kinds of great storage gadgets out there to help your laundry room be functional and beautiful like pull-out drying racks, ironing board, and hide-away shelving that you can open up when you need somewhere to put a laundry basket.
