Interior Details That Home Buyers Love

Home buyers want a home that is attractive, affordable and on budget.

Small but thoughtful interior details can make the difference between a house and a home, and can give your home the edge over other properties on the market. Here are a few interior details that home buyers are looking for.

Technology

Technology is part of every home buyer’s day-to-day life which is why tech-related interior details leave a lasting impression.

  • Charging Stations
Having ample room for the entire family to charge phones and other electronics is crucial. A convenient drop-off spot that can hold house keys and devices in a tidy and organized way will impress tech-savvy home buyers.
  • Wireless Compatibility
Home buyers want the ability to work from anywhere – this is especially important to buyers who work in the GTA who want to make sure they won’t have any issues working from home. Children being able to do their homework at the kitchen island while dinner is being made, or in their room at their desk, makes life more harmonious for everyone. With the pace of life moving quicker than ever, being off the grid is not an option. Consider posting a sign for showings displaying a guest wifi password so they can check out your high-speed connectivity.
  • Lots of Outlets
Today’s buyer wants to be able to plug in their device in any room in their home without having to unplug a lamp. Home buyers want to access recipes in the kitchen, watch online videos in the den, check out radio podcasts in the bathroom and listen to music on the patio. The more outlets, the better.
  • App-driven technology
Home buyers appreciate being able to control everything with the touch of a button. If they can turn the lights on and off, monitor security, set the thermostat, raise and lower the blinds, monitor food remotely as it cooks, check laundry cycles and receive alerts all via an app, all the better.

Energy Efficiency

Home buyers take notice of properties with energy efficiencies that provide a return on investment such as low-e windows and energy-efficient appliances. Home buyers are aware that little things like ceiling fans and programmable thermostats can cut heating and cooling costs so home buyers often take note of those details.

Finished Basement
A finished basement is a big plus for today’s home buyer who has less free time to be the weekend handyman, and more desire for finished space. Home buyers want a basement floor plan that is as bright, open and inviting as possible. The way the added space is used will differ with each home buyer, so neutral colour selections and hardwood or hardwood-look engineered flooring are still the best options when it comes to décor.

Timeless Décor

Although interior design trends are always changing and tastes vary from person to person, there are a few timeless styles that are a safe bet.  White cabinetry, neutral subway tile, and hardwood flooring are enduring classics that home buyers appreciate. Tastefully-done crown molding and trim is fairly cost-effective to install but can transform a space, leaving a lasting impression on home buyers.

Laundry Room Must-haves

Home buyers prefer not to lug laundry up and down the basement stairs so a main or second floor laundry room has become standard. However, no matter what floor your laundry room is on, having an organized laundry area with countertops and shelving will never go unnoticed. The laundry room is often a multi-purpose space, serving as mud room, dog washing station, ironing and folding room, and storage space, so ensuring the room functions well and looks great is important.
