The Importance of Finding a GREAT Real Estate Agent

Whether you’re buying or selling a home, having a good real estate agent or a great real estate agent makes all the difference – not only financially but also emotionally. When you buy or sell a home, you’re  taking a huge financial step. Hiring an agent that is at the top of their industry can mean the difference between selling your home for top dollar, or losing the house of your dreams to a more organized buyer.

According to Dave Ramsey—author, talk show host and personal finance expert, there are a few important things to look for in finding a professional agent who will surpass your expectations.

“First impressions are everything: Your first contact with an agent will tell you a lot. An agent who wants your business will return your call immediately. If you’re waiting days to hear back… you can be sure that agent isn’t focused on super-serving you.”

“Experience speaks for itself: Real estate is a tough business. So an agent who’s been successful for at least five years clearly enjoys their work, and should know what they’re doing. Especially if they “close on 40 or more home sales transactions each year.” Most agents close on just a handful of homes in a year.”

“Planning ahead: Ask prospective agents how they will market your home. They should be able to outline their plan and tell you how each step will attract buyers and get your home sold. If you feel like an important component is missing, ask about that too. A good agent will explain why certain strategies may not work in your market, and have an effective marketing plan in place to showcase your home in the best possible way.”

“Confidence in their abilities: Remember, you’re hiring an expert, but that doesn’t mean you won’t ever disagree with your agent. If that happens, your agent should back up their suggestions with comps or sales data so you know their advice is based on prior experience. If your agent tries to bully you into following his recommendations or simply bows to your demands, this isn’t the agent for you.”
