Hockey Night in Simcoe County
On August 11th, 2016, the Barrie Molson Centre played host to Hockey Night in Simcoe County, a charity hockey game featuring an all-star line-up of current NHL hockey players, alumni, and celebrities in support of our local hospitals. The BMC was packed with hockey fans of all ages! NHL all-stars including Connor McDavid, Aaron Ekblad, Shane Corson, and Darcy Tucker suited up, along with celebrities such as Canadian actor Alan Thicke, local MPP Patrick Brown and our very own Thomas Faris. Thomas even scored a goal!
A total of $203,500 was raised in support of our local hospitals. The money raised from this great event will help to develop an eight-bed child and youth mental-health unit and day program at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. Simcoe Muskoka is the only region in the province without these services and these funds will make an impact in bringing vital mental health services for youth closer to home. Other healthcare facilities benefitted from this year’s game including Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, and the Barrie Colts Community Fund.
