Join the Magic of First Light
Recognized by Festivals and Events Ontario as one of the Top 100 Events in Ontario, First Light is a magical experience suitable for all ages.
Looking for a memorable holiday experience to get you into the Christmas spirit? Be sure to visit Sainte Marie Among the Hurons in Midland for First Light!
Upon arrival, you will be transported back in time as you approach the 17th-century mission lit by over 5,000 candles. Visitors can stroll the candlelit paths which lead to a variety of fun family activities. Gather round the fire while listening to aboriginal drumming in the longhouse, lively Franco-Ontarian folksongs, and delightful community and school choirs performing seasonal music over the nine evenings.
The cookhouse will be filled with the sights and smells of delicious baked goods, refreshments, and cookie samples available for tasting. Historic blacksmithing will also be demonstrated, and a Nativity scene will be on display in the stables near the Farmer’s Dwelling. Corn husk doll making will be offered for the little ones as well as various crafts and activities throughout the grounds. There will also be over 20 local artists and artisans on-site if you’re looking to purchase a unique gift for under the tree! Continue your experience at the Martyrs’ Shrine for native storytelling and pictures with Santa Claus. You can also watch the nativity scene come alive as you enjoy hot apple cider in the courtyard! This is an event that you won’t want to miss!

Details: Admission is $10 per person, with a donation of a non-perishable item. Children under five years of age are FREE! This is an outdoor event – be sure to dress warmly!
