Christmas Glow

When: November 22, 2018 – January 6, 2019
Where: Bradford Greenhouse Garden Gallery
What Is It: If an evening of delicious food, one-of-a-kind gifts, and authentic light displays are something you would be interested in then Christmas Glow is one to mark in your calendars. Featuring a magic castle playground, LED swings, and an appearance by the man in red himself, this event is sure to lift the holiday spirits of all members of the family.

Winter Wonderland

When: Friday evenings from Nov 30, 2018 – Jan 4, 2019
Where: Riverwalk Commons, 200 Doug Duncan Dr., Newmarket|
What Is It: Grab your outdoor gear and enjoy a dazzling a holiday light display, performances, treats, and a free outdoor skate every Friday evening at the Newmarket Riverwalk Commons. Children will gather with friends to admiring performances by Bex in MotionScarlet Black, and Hoop U while adults gather in The Ice Lounge, sponsored by Jay Miller Real Estate to relax.

Blumination

When: Dec 1st, 2018 – January 6th, 2019
Where: 156 Jozo Weider Blvd., The Blue Mountains
What Is It: Gather the family and head to Blue Mountain to experience the wonderful, illuminated sights of “Blumination”. It’s a holiday celebration every night of the week, with an extra extravagant schedule on Saturday nights, featuring horse-drawn wagon rides, visits from Santa, and fireworks.

Winter Break Activities

When: Dec 22 – Jan 6, 2019, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, 16160 Highway 12 E., Midland
What Is It: Discover the beauty of Nature on the stunning winter terrain of Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre this winter break. Daily activities include but are not limited to, hiking, bannock roasting, visits from the “feature creature,” swan stories, and snowshoe discovery guided tours.

Guided Night Snowshoe Hikes

When: Friday, December 28th – Saturday, March 30th
Where: Scenic Caves, The Blue Mountains
What Is It: Enjoy a 1½ to 2 hour guided nighttime snowshoe hike through the wintery wonderland of the scenic caves trails. Cost: $49 per person (includes snowshoes if required). Reservations required.

Nerf Gun Game Night

When: Friday, January 4th 
Where: Midland Public Library
What Is It: Pack up your nerf guns and head on out to the Midland Public Library to challenge your friends in an action-packed game of capture the flag. Admission: $5:00 per participant.

Nordic Demo Day

When: Saturday, January 5th, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Where: Hardwood Ski and Bike, Oro-Medonte
What Is It: For both the avid skier or the beginner, come out to demo day to test out some of the latest and greatest equipment in the sport. A variety of retailers will be on-site offering demos of their ski equipment along with their expertise.

Newmarket’s New Year’s Levee

When: Wednesday, January 9th, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Where: Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall
What Is It: Welcome in the new year with the mayor and members of the town council at their annual levee. Enjoy a free public skate, warm beverages, and treats.

Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2019

When: January 10th-12th
Where: Orillia Opera House
What Is It: Sponsored by Sojourn, the Banff Mountain Film Festival comes to Orillia! The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity brings a tour of authentic films around the globe which highlight profound journeys, adventures and ground-breaking expeditions in the mountains.

The 21st Annual Sir John A. Macdonald Celebration

When: Saturday, January 12th
Where: Hawk Ridge Golf & Country Club
What Is It: Enjoy an evening of celebration of everything Canadian hosted by OMAH’s History Committee. The evening will feature guest speaker Sally Armstrong, author, journalist and human rights activist. Tickets are $60.

Taylor Cup Pond Hockey Tournament

When: January 25th – 26th
Where: Bayview Wildwood Resort, Sparrow Lake / Severn Bridge
What Is It: In memory of Judd Taylor, this 14th annual pond hockey tournament is a 2-day round robin tournament taking hockey back to the basics on a frozen pond. Proceeds benefit Sarcoma Research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Power of the Purse – Dress for Success

When: Saturday, January 26th, 6:30 pm – 11:00 pm
Where: Barrie Country Club
What Is It: Come on out for a fun-filled girl’s night! Enjoy a silent and live auction featuring designer and one-of-a-kind handbags. Proceeds support the Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie employment and suiting program which empowers women to become economically independent.
