Things to Buy in Late Spring

There is a season for all things; a time to shop, and a time to save. In spring you can do both if you know what to look for. The season delivers a unique selection of savings for consumers, and special buying opportunities that only come around at this time of year. Don’t let spring slip away without taking advantage of some of the season’s best deals.

Refrigerators and Vacuums
Because June is traditionally when new refrigerator and vacuum models are released, look for stores to be clearing out last year’s models at a deep discount in May.

Sports Shoes
In anticipation of running season, May is the month for sports shoe sales. Major shoe brands offer up large discounts of up to 40% off or multi-buy discounts to encourage you to trade out your old runners for new ones sooner rather than later.

House Season!
While spring can be a competitive time for home buyers, it is also the time of year when the seller market begins to heat up, meaning there are more buying choices available. If you want to take advantage of this busy season, come to the table prepared to act quickly, be flexible to seller requests and have your financial ducks all in a row.

Pots and Pans
With wedding season on the approach, retailers are trying to steer your gift choices. Look for great sales on quality pots and pans throughout the late spring.

In-Season Fruits/Veggies
The best part about fresh produce is that it is least expensive when it tastes the best. Farmer’s Markets are once again open for business. Ontario’s fruits and veggies that are in season in late spring include: asparagus, rhubarb, mushrooms, radishes, spinach, baby greens, cucumbers, strawberries, onions and peppers.

Chocolate Treats
If you are mourning the fact that the Easter chocolate clearance is over, grieve no more! Spring is chock full of opportunities to indulge in your favourite treats at a discount. Your cocoa will be on clearance once again after Mother’s Day!

Tools
In preparation for Father’s Day, tools tend to go on sale in late spring. Watch for flash sales on select tools at your local hardware and automotive stores.

Thrift Store
Spring cleaning, renovations and moving season leads to a flood of donations and great finds at your local thrift shops and re-stores. It is smart to check these stores often, as new items flood in daily.

Office Furniture
School is almost over, tax season is just wrapping up; stores want to clear out older model office furniture in the off season, to make way for newer models in preparation for the pre-autumn rush. This is a great time to find clearance deals.

Spring Clothes
By May, most clothing retailers have shuffled out the spring stock and filled the shelves with summer wear. Now is the time to hit the clearance rack, and find great deals on spring fashion.

Swimwear
Keep an eye out for limited spring sales on swimwear, and act fast. Selection on bathing suits tends to thin out drastically with the approach of summer.
