Remember how 2016 was all about light, airy and rustic? Summer 2017 has been taking the design world for a ride with simplistic, statement design trends. We’ve found some of the hottest trends we’re seeing this season that you will be dying to try. From moody tones to simple designs, this season’s trends have been making a definite statement.  With summer sales beginning, this may be a good time to update your home décor, particularly since these design trends will continue through the fall.

  1. Less is More: It’s natural to think that the more décor and furniture you have in a room the more stylish that room would be, but this summer, the design trend is quite the opposite. Scandinavian-inspired designs are super trendy this summer. This means minimal décor with small furniture and statement pieces.

  1. Black Finished Metal: Rustic style took home décor and polished brass and metals are still on trend, but with a bit of a more modern approach. Black finished metal is heating up this summer, whether it be lighting or the hardware in your kitchen, black finishes are where it’s at. These pendant lights are a great example of adding finished black metal to your space.

  1. Blush: One of our favourite trends this summer is blush décor. This gorgeous colour is everywhere this season! Whether it be in textiles, paint or accented furniture, this colour is a definite must-have. These adorable blush pillows would make a great addition to any space.

  1. The Darker the Better: While 2016 was all about your light pastels and lighter tones, this summer it is all about moody colours. Darker accented walls and dark furniture is steaming up this season. Says Holly Hickey Moore, Interior Designer at hollyhickeymoore.com, “I think there’s going to be a transition to more moody interiors. Darker walls, jewel tones, greens, fuchsia and teal.” This Lambert Sleeper Sofa is not only a gorgeous piece to add to your space, but it comes in a variety of dark tones to help you create that moody feel.

  1. Matte: Matte has been in style for fashion for the past few years and now it’s making its way to home décor. Say bye-bye stainless steel appliances and hello to matte. This serves as a subtle statement piece as well because most people expect appliances to have some kind of gloss or shine. When you have matte appliances it goes against those design ideals, forcing the object to become more of a design element. This matted charcoal fridge is just a small example of how appliances can contribute to the style of your space.
  1. Pops of Blue: Back to that Scandinavian style. A pop of blue in a monochrome room is a great way to add some colour to your living space. Whether it be a rug, a vase, or even an accented piece of furniture, adding vibrant blues to your design can add a touch of excitement to your space. This blue Langley Street Frederick Arm Chair is a node to Scandinavian style, while adding that pop of blue to your design.

  1. Cacti: Looking for trending greenery to add to your space? Succulent trend no more, cacti are the plant of the season this year. Whether it be big or small, this plant is a great addition to your summer space. Once again, a simplistic, statement piece.
