Habitat for Humanity Honours The Faris Team

Habitat for Humanity Huronia honoured The Faris Team’s support of their Adopt-A-Day Program with a personal visit from local recipients of a Habitat townhome (Anne Street location) and a plaque presentation on July 24, 2017.

Last fall, 30 members of The Faris Team built the whole first floor of the home on Anne Street (Barrie), and their contributions helped pay for the contractors, materials, and more.

“The fact that The Faris Team donates to Habitat for Humanity to create these builds is amazing,” said Ken Kirk, Chief Executive Officer, Habitat for Humanity Huronia. “It is a very meaningful and rewarding experience for our partners to get out into the community, get their hands dirty, and create awareness about our organization. When they meet the families who will be benefitting from their generous contributions first hand, it really puts into perspective the impact that they are having on someone else’s life.”

Habitat for Humanity Huronia builds or renovates houses for hard-working families who need a hand-up in order to own a quality, affordable home. They use a no-interest, no-down payment mortgage with adjustable monthly payments, for no more than 25% of the total family income. Their model helps to provide affordable housing for families in need, while helping them build assets and a stable home life for their children. A recipient of one of the 2016 homes built on Anne Street in Barrie was Michelle Steele.

“Habitat for Humanity Huronia and The Faris Team’s generosity have given me the financial freedom and the ability to raise my kids in a home that’s ours, and allows us to spend more time together as a family,” said Steele. “I was alongside The Faris Team on the Adopt-A-Day, helping to put up the walls on the first floor of our home. It was really heartwarming to see them so willing to help.”

According to Jennifer Berry, Family & Volunteer Services Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity Huronia, many of our team members are pretty handy with a hammer.

“They are so wildly skilled outside of selling real estate; many of the team members had experience in the skilled trades, and sure know how to swing a hammer, building the deck in no time. We were ahead of schedule on our last build due to their quick pace and amazing team work.”

Mark Faris, Chief Executive Officer and Broker, Royal LePage First Contact Realty The Faris Team, Brokerage felt truly honoured to receive the plaque.

“It really is more than just a plaque – it represents the families that we’ve been able to help by participating in the Adopt A Day Program,” said Faris. “We often take for granted being able to buy a home, as there are many people in our communities who can barely afford rent. To meet the families during the construction period, and see them again now – speaking about the joys of homeownership – is a pretty amazing feeling.”

The Faris Team looks forward to continuing to build their relationship with Habitat for Humanity Huronia in the coming years. For more information on Habitat for Humanity Huronia and how to get involved, visit their website at www.habitathuronia.com
