To celebrate Easter, the Faris Team rolled up our sleeves once again on Thursday, April 5th in support of the Barrie Food Bank with our annual “Easter Sort.” With our Full Out For You® attitudes in high gear and loads of elbow grease, our team helped to sort 48,000 pounds of food destined for Barrie families and individuals in need.

Mark Faris, CEO, of the Faris Team, still remembers a time when he and his wife Joanna didn’t have enough money to buy milk. It’s been more than ten years, but the memory is still fresh and it makes him passionate about helping worthy organizations like The Barrie Food Bank.

“The Faris Team is a dedicated community partner that not only comes in to the food bank and works hard to sort 50,000-60,000 pounds of food each spring, but is also a major financial contributor,” says Peter Sundborg, Executive Director of The Barrie Food Bank. “Their annual support allows us to purchase eggs, cheese, milk, margarine, fresh vegetables and meat. These products help us to provide a more balanced diet to those in need. We are honoured to be partners with The Faris Team.”

Volunteers and donors are critical to the success of The Barrie Food Bank. Without the help of volunteers from the community, these donations couldn’t possibly have been sorted.

“Supporting The Barrie Food Bank is important to the Faris Team, and to me, personally,” commented Faris. “The work they do, helping local families put meals on the table and get through challenging times, is a vital community service. As a caring local business, providing our financial and volunteer support are tangible ways that we can make a real difference. We are truly blessed to be working alongside such a great organization that helps to change the lives of those in need in our community.”

The Barrie Food Bank is always seeking volunteers, donations, and financial support.

The most sought-after items include:

  • Powdered skim milk
  • Baby formula
  • Large size diapers
  • Canned vegetables
  • Sugar
  • Toiletries
  • Drinking boxes
  • Lunch snacks
  • Canned fruit
  • Peanut butter
  • Pancake mix
  • Oatmeal

With the aid of a large walk-in refrigerator and freezer, The Barrie Food Bank can also accept perishable items such as frozen chicken, turkeys, ground beef, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. Perishable items must be dropped off at the food bank in person.

Sundborg went on to say, “Close to 2,800 people each month use our service to put food on the table for their family. Many people would go hungry without your generosity, together we are working towards A Community Where No One is Hungry.”
